The Burner (Poem)

He is the one who has a fireball in his hand.
He use that fireball to burn everything.

Once, I had found him...
He smiled and asked, "What do you want me to burn?"

"Burn?" I was puzzled.

"Yes. Burn. Anything will turn to be dust.
Anything you want to destroy."

I smiled and answered, "Everything I hate,
I want to burn it... All!"

Then he showed me the fireball in his hand.
I looked into the ball and I saw something was burnt.

I saw the thing I detest. Lifes, breath that I loathe
were burnt down. I smiled...

Suddenly, I felt blazing at my fingers.
The flame burnt my hands and reached to my body.

Then he laughed at me.
He said, "Do you know,
You have asked me to burn yourself!?"

The Burner (Tale)

The Burner was a skinny man in a dark overcoat. He always had five fireballs above his five right fingers. He usually traveled in dark and deserted alleys of the night and searched for a house with an unhappy child.

One day, the Burner entered into a house by magic and headed to a bedroom. In the middle of the bedroom, there was a boy sleeping in his bed.

The Burner walked slowly to the boy. He woke the boy up.

"If you had fire, what would you like to burn down?" the Burner asked.

"I'd burn down all people, all the things I hate," the boy answered with his eyes half opened.

"I'll give you three of my fireballs." The Burner raised his hand to show the fireballs and smiled. "You can use them to burn anything you hate."

"Only three?" the boy doubted. "That's not enough. Can I have all of those you have?"

"Just three," the Burner insisted. "I'm sure that's enough."

Suddenly, three fireballs flew to the boy’s right hand. Each of them soared above his index finger, his middle finger and his ring finger. The Burner smiled again and disappeared.

The boy woke up with a shock in the morning. He looked at his right hand. There was no fireball. It might have been just a dream. So, he got dressed and went to school.

In school, while the boy was playing with his friends, one of his friends accidentally pushed him. He fell down and got bruised. Then he was angry.

When the boy was on the way home after school, he found his neighbor's dog. It was sleeping. The boy was in bad mood. So he kicked the dog. The dog jumped up and ran after him. The boy had to run to his home. He could get away from the dog, but he got angry.

When the boy came back home, he rushed to his room. He made a wish to have three fireballs as in the dream.

The fireballs appeared suddenly. They soared above his right-hand fingers like in the dream. The dream was not just a dream but it was real.

The boy was very happy. "I'd like the neighbor's dog to be burned," he side.

Nothing happened but the fireball at his ring finger disappeared. The boy sat at the window, disappointed."

Two minutes later, he heard a dog howling. Looking down the window, he saw the neighbor's dog was howling and struggling at the fences. After that, it lay still.

The boy laughed. He was very happy. "My second wish, I want to burn my friend who pushed me this afternoon."

The fireball above his middle finger disappeared. The boy rushed to a phone immediately. He made his friend a call.

"I don't know what's happening. He didn't answer the door!" his friend's mother told him.

The boy smiled. He headed back to his room, locked the door and managed to make the third wish. There was only one fireball left. He had to use it worthily.

"I'd like everyone who has made me angry to be burned," he said slowly.

It was getting dark. The fireball above the boy’s index finger disappeared. The boy started feeling like he was in a heated room. He struggled like the neighbor’s dog had done.

There was a shadow by the window. It was the Burner. Looking at the boy, he smiled.

"You have used all the fireballs you have. See? They're enough," the Burner said. The boy did not answer. He was suffering from the invisible fire.

"You are being burnt because you wish to burn anything that's made you angry," the Burner continued. "But you get angry because you yourself feel it. Then the fireball burned you."

"Help!" he screamed.

"No one can help you except yourself," the Burner said. "I"ll give you another fireball. You might use it to help yourself…and others. Now, you have the last chance."

There was a fireball flying to the boy's right index finger. The boy thought of how he ought to use it to get out of this suffering.  Fireballs did only burn. What should he burn?

Then the boy had an idea. "I'd like to burn all of the bad things I did today."

As if the room turned upside down, the boy felt his body twisting around. He closed his eyes and screamed out loud.

The boy opened his eyes again. In a shock, he looked at his right hand. There was no fireball. He jumped out of his bed and look out the window. The neighbor’s dog was sleeping near the fences. He ran to the phone and called his friend.

"What's up?" his friend answered.

"Nothing," he said and hung up. He was very happy. He laughed. Then his mother came up and asked him.

"Why don't you get dressed and go to school? You're going to be late."

The boy rushed to his room, got dressed and went to school.
